The Team

Tyler Eads

CEO / Co-Founder

Tyler was raised in Belfast, Maine, where his early connection to the ocean sparked a lifelong appreciation for hands-on work and problem-solving. He is a 2008 graduate of Maine Maritime Academy and spent the following years working aboard a wide range of vessels around the world, ultimately earning his Master Unlimited Captain’s license.

In 2018, Tyler returned to his hometown and began investing in and revitalizing older housing stock throughout the region. These projects focused on transforming legacy buildings into high-performance, fully electrified homes incorporating solar energy and modern efficiency upgrades. Through this work, Tyler developed a deep respect for the potential of renewable energy, not only as a technology, but as a tool for long-term economic and environmental resilience.

Today, Tyler is committed to helping businesses stabilize their electricity costs while building a sustainable energy future. His work is grounded in local values, practical experience, and a belief that thoughtful energy investments allow businesses and communities to strengthen their roots for generations to come.

Kurt Penney

Business Development / Co-Founder

Kurt grew up in Connecticut and is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston. A 20-year career in the NY apparel industry took him down 7th Avenue, across the country and all around the world. He directed sales teams, led design and merchandising functions for major domestic importers and fashion brands. In 2005, Maine called to the Penney family and a change of direction led them to the Midcoast where his two grown children attended schools and his wife continues to work in the Energy Efficiency space.

Kurt enjoys family time, daily walks and having the opportunity to work in commercial energy strategies with the Unity Energy Partners team.

David Kelly

Designer / Co-Founder

David was born, raised & educated in Maine. After graduating from Bates College (2009) and internships at the Solar Living Institute (Northern California) & Yestermorrow Design-Build School (Vermont), he worked closely with his father doing historic renovations, deep energy retrofits and Passivehaus-standard new construction, most notably the development of a multi-house subdivision on a former superfund site.

David has been exclusively in Renewables since 2019. He started with a small 3-person crew, handling everything from planning through to construction and service. Since 2023 he has focused on commercial energy design, engineering, estimation, procurement and technical grant writing. He is comfortable with all types of systems, including but not limited to residential grid-tied, off-grid & hybrid; commercial flat and pitched roof; fixed or variable tilt ground mounts & carports; and large-scale ESS. He still spends a lot of time in the field and uses this as an opportunity to inform his designs for clarity and constructability.

David lives on a third generation off-grid family homestead in Lowell, ME with solar, microhydro, wind and an energy system he built from mostly used equipment. Alongside his wife Kathryn, David tends sheep, chickens, a sugarbush, large perennial & annual gardens and a sustainable woodlot. He loves growing garlic.

Jesse Garlick

Chief Operations Officer / Co-Founder

Jesse grew up farming in New Hampshire and spent his 20s farming and traveling around the world hiking a cumulative 16,000 miles across continents and countries. Those experiences led to a keen understanding of our natural world and how we move within it. Jesse entered the Renewable energy industry as an installer, and quickly moved into a role in operations management. His focus is providing safe, reliable, and thorough installations both for our customers and contracting partners.
